Parental involvement in a child’s school studies is known to be an effective way to increase the academic performance of children with migrant backgrounds and to fight against trends in early school leaving.
Recognising the value of this parental involvement in a child’s educational pathway, Parents Engage will act as a support network for parents of migrant children to help them become actively involved in their children’s education. The project will engage with schools and educators, building a strong support network for children with a migrant background.
Parents Engage aims to construct a robust model for inclusive educational practices to increase the partnerships between parent and school communities. This objective will materialise through the use of digital storytelling and the creation of a mobile app targeted towards parents.
Beyond this, the project will construct a set of robust policy recommendations to encourage a continued focus on encouraging the engagement of parents of migrant and schools.
The first step in this journey is the collection of tried and tested innovative strategies that promote parental inclusion in education activities. The aim of this step is to ensure that the ultimate strategy chosen by Parents Engage is built upon the successes and the lessons learnt from past projects.
